UCP of Sacramento and Northern California has received grants from several local organizations to fund ACE Camp, a summer camp for kids with autism. The summer camp is funded entirely by community support and is designed for children with autism, the developmental disability that is most expensive to provide care for. Many UCP clients are from low income households.
MAXIMUS Foundation grants $2,500 to UCP of Sacramento and Northern California to empower children with autism build friendships and socialization skills at the UCP Autism Center for Excellence at Sacramento State.
Tenga Foundation grants UCP of Sacramento and Northern California with $3,000 to assist children and adults with adaptive horsemanship therapy to empower them to be more independent.
UCP of Sacramento and Northern California will hold its 19th annual Humanitarian of the Year Award Dinner 6-9 p.m. on May 10 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel Sacramento. The group, which empowers people with developmental disabilities to live life without limits, will honor Chevo Ramirez, regional vice president of Wells Fargo Foundation for the Northern and Central California Region.
It does not get much more heartbreaking-and inspiring-than Catalina Rodriguez' story. As teen mom, she was devastated when she lost her 18-month-old son, Isaac, who had cerebral palsy. Yet, Catalina has taken her grief and turned it into a mission: to raise funds and awareness for cerebral palsy and to empower children and adults to live life without limits.
