UAE Precor in Top 16 Teams at Dana Cup
Star under-16 team faced Guatemalans La Academia in knock-out-16 round.
- (1888PressRelease) August 08, 2011 - Dubai - UAE Precor, the star under -16 team recently placed in the top 16 in the Dana Cup, one of the world's largest youth soccer tour-naments. The Cup features 850 teams from 45 countries and takes place every year in Hjorring, Denmark, from July 25th to 30th, 2011.
The team topped their group in the boys' under-16 division with 7 points. They trounced their first opponent, Norwegian team Sorumsand IL 6-1 and drew 1-1 in their second group match against strong opponents Vadmyra IL, also from Norway. In the final group match, UAE Precor won 2-0 against their opponents Trauma IF and entered the knock-out-round-16, in which they faced Guatemalan team La Academia.
La Academia was a strong team but UAE Precor was well up to the task. After coming to a no-score deadlock in regular time, the match progressed into a penalty shoot-out. UAE Precor lost 4-2.
Back home in Dubai, in addition to winning all under-16 local and regional tournaments that took place in the 2010/2011 season, the team secured a third place in Division 3 of the Dubai Amateur Adults Football League (DAFL) playing against adult teams. The team reached the knock-out-32 round at the recently concluded Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, when an administrative mistake barred them from competing further.
The UAE Precor team consists of 22 footballers representing at least 14 different countries. The team is coached by Derek Burke with Tarek Khalifa as the assistant coach. Burke also manages the team and encourages and supports them in all their achievements.
Tarek Khalifa said, "Loss often has more lessons than success and our team is only stronger because of the lessons we learned at Gothia and Dana. In the future, I see the players' determination and skill carrying them far in international tournaments."

The most recent victory for UAE Precor is winning the '(U16) TTD International Super Cup' against teams from India, South Africa and Qatar in a five-day tournament conducted at the Dubai Sevens Stadium football pitches.
