- (1888PressRelease) April 30, 2011 - "Our intent with this mission is to develop relationships that can bring more business for our companies and for Cross River State," said Dr. Cheryl Hill, CEO of IICG. "The global accessibility we can provide through the Cross River State Government and public private partnerships already positions Maryland's business owners and other U.S. business leaders as prime trade partners with Cross River State, and opens other economic development opportunities for us as well."
IICG will take 7 representatives of U.S. businesses active in those sectors to Cross River State, Nigeria, led by Dr. Hill, where they will be offered meetings with top State decision makers as well as networking opportunities and one-on-one business appointments. The representatives are among the top African American businesses; Global Trade & Development, Visionary Marketing Group, Maxser Consulting Group, MayfieldGentry LLC, BithEnergy, Unesco Center for Peace and a private philanthropist.
"With a population of 150 million people, the largest in Africa and the 8th largest in the world, Nigeria has a thriving consumer market and its economy was among the top 20 fastest growing in the world in 2009, with annual growth at more than six percent.
The population of Cross River State is estimated at 2.89 million (2006). Forty percent of the estimated population is engaged in various economic activities; ranging from subsistence agriculture to urban commerce and transportation.
Traditionally one of the most peaceful states in the federation, Cross River State is home to some of Nigeria's most beautiful scenery. The development of the state's tourism potential remains at the core of the state government's strategy for development.
The delegation will visit the Tinapa Business Resort which is now becoming an integrated business and tourism attraction set up where visitors from both within and outside the country would have the opportunity to shop for goods of various kinds of international standard in a friendly environment which offers full leisure, thus achieving a perfect integration of business and relaxation. With the turn of the global economy, Tinapa Business Resort is fast becoming the buzz of the State of Maryland and other U.S. states.
Tinapa Business Resort has, among other facilities, four emporiums of 80,000m (the size of two football fields) in the main section. These emporiums plan to have goods of various types which Nigerians travel to Dubai, Europe and other internationally recognized free trade zones to purchase. Tinapa is a duty free zone.
This undiscovered treasure has captured the eyes of American investors. Apart from the emporiums, there are opportunities for an entertainment centre with facilities for cinemas, food court, games arcade and other attractions. Also tourists have the pleasure of waterfront views, boating and Jet Ski racing.
The delegation will be instrumental in bringing other investors to Cross River State. "Our expectation is to be one of several American stakeholders in the Tinapa Business Resort" says James Cooper, Managing Director of Maxser Consulting. The desire is to have several opportunities for businesses from the U.S. to assist in the future growth of Cross River State.
