  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2011 - CollegeAmerica campuses (http://www.collegeamerica.edu) in Denver and Fort Collins are participating in the 9Health Fair this week, with hundreds of healthcare students from each campus donating their skills and time to support the mission of the fair and serve local communities.

The Denver Campus 9Health Fair involvement includes approximately 100 volunteers scattered at different locations around Denver and Boulder. These volunteers work across all nine days of the fair, which runs from April 9-17. Denver student volunteers will be in locations including Castle Rock, Evergreen and Lone Tree.

In Fort Collins, CollegeAmerica is teaming up with other local colleges. All provide student volunteers to perform medical screenings, most notably blood pressure and phlebotomy.

The volunteers will be assisting and supporting efforts on April 15 and April 16. Students volunteers will be stationed those dates at the Christ Center Community Church from 7:00 am until 12:00 pm.

Volunteers from both the Denver and Fort Collins campuses will be working to support 9Health Fair's offerings of these free and low-cost health screenings:

    • Blood Chemistry Screening, $30
    • Blood Count, $15
    • Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) for men, $25
    • Vitamin D Screening, $40
    • Hemoglobin A1c Screening, $25

Both CollegeAmerica campuses held refresher classes in their respective metro areas before the 9Health Fair began this year, helping other volunteers to practice their skills and bring them back up to par.

"CollegeAmerica Denver volunteers are leaders in our community in phlebotomy", says Nathan Larson, regional director for the Denver, Fort Collins and Cheyenne CollegeAmerica campuses. "We've participated for the past ten years and are proud to continue the tradition for 2011."

"We're thrilled to be supporting the 9Health Fair in offering these screenings again", says Fort Collins CollegeAmerica campus director Joel Scimeca. "We view it as invaluable experience for our healthcare students and each year look forward to meeting those in our community and to assist them in finding a way to better health."
