StageWest and Repertory Theatre of Iowa unite to form the Iowa Stage Theatre Company. New company will launch its season in September 2017.
- Des Moines, IA (1888PressRelease) March 04, 2017 - The Board of Directors for StageWest Theatre Company and Repertory Theater of Iowa (RTI) have signed an agreement to join forces to create a new theatre company and end operations as separate organizations in 2017 and form IOWA STAGE THEATER COMPANY. StageWest and RTI will complete their current seasons through June 2017 and IOWA STAGE will officially launch in April. The new company's seven show season will begin in September.
Offering a diverse selection of classic and contemporary productions, the company will perform primarily at the Des Moines Social Club's Kum & Go Theater, and will continue partnership with Salisbury House and Gardens on the annual Shakespeare on the Lawn production.
"The union of StageWest and RTI makes a lot of sense" said Dave Miglin, president of the StageWest Board of Directors. "Our goal is to create a sustainable, theatre company in downtown Des Moines that provides more variety at an affordable price. Our plays and musical selections will be unique to the area and offer something for all ages - Millennials to seniors - to enjoy. We're also working hard to support and keep our local talented artists right here in Des Moines. The goal being to provide the professional level quality experiences that you would find in any other major theater city with the best that our local talent has to offer.
IOWA STAGE will consist of a Board of Directors, an Executive Director, Artistic and Production Managers as well as other positions; each focused on efficiency and quality in their respective areas of responsibility. In addition, committees have been formed to advise the organization on matters relating to play selection and general business operations. StageWest and RTI have already begun sharing resources, and will finalize the consolidation of the IOWA STAGE office and rehearsal space at 111 11th street in downtown Des Moines this spring.
"In keeping with the traditions of StageWest and RTI, IOWA STAGE will be presenting relevant, entertaining stories that explore and celebrate the human condition" says Miglin. "IOWA STAGE will present a vibrant, diverse mix of both the classic and contemporary plays you come to expect from both of our companies, along with some surprises."
