Twelve Step Education Program of New England Receives 2010 Model Program Award from National Library of Addictions
Program honored for its services to New England communities.
- (1888PressRelease) August 31, 2010 - Brookline, MA - Twelve Step Education Program of New England received the "Model Program: Award for its consistent dedication to sober living in the communities of Billerica, Quincy, Saugus, Woburn, and Berwick, Maine, among others. Twelve Step Education Program of New England's founder and Executive Director, Phil Malonson, has been a pioneer in the field of addiction recovery since 1992.

The underlying principle of 12 Step Education Program of N.E. Inc., is that recovery starts with a practice of sober living. The non-profit program was created by Founder and Executive Director Phil Malonson to establish sober living environments for men and women recovering from drug or alcohol addictions. He wanted to give something back by helping other men and women gain sobriety and a new life. He opened the very first sober home for 7 men in 1992. Soon, interest grew and individuals approached Phil for a sober place to stay. He saw the need and Twelve Step Education Program of New England was born.
He realizes that it is difficult for those in recovery to maintain their sobriety when they get back to their previous environment. He knows that the most significant factor in substance abuse relapse is re-exposure to a toxic environment. Those wishing to recover spend years passing through the revolving door of multiple treatments, repeating the pattern again and again. Mr. Malonson created 12 Step Education Program of N.E., Inc.'s sober living environments to help break that cycle by providing a sober and supportive atmosphere for recovery.
The success of the Twelve Step Education Program of New England, Inc. has come from the experiences of hundreds of thousands of recovering persons who have followed the Twelve Step principles. Now many sober years later, Phil has earned degrees in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling as well as Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling.
About the "Model Program" Award
National Library of Addictions began this Award in 2009. The first recipient was Healthy Malden, Inc. who provided sixteen years of coalition building in the Malden community. The "Model Program" Award holds a candle to innovators who break new ground in promoting Healthy Communities.

Kishore, the National Library of Addiction is a not-for-profit, intellectual gathering place for health care professionals and community members who are working to overcome the effects of addictions.
