TV's First Golf Sitcom Tees Off On FirstRun.tv Network
"The Foursome Of Hazard Heights" Drives Laughs On The Links
With An Oddball Group Of Four Who Play Golf Every Saturday.
- (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2013 - Los Angeles - As part of its expanding slate of original series, FirstRun.tv Network (www.FirstRun.tv) has debuted an unusual new half-hour sitcom based on the world of golf and golfers. "The Foursome Of Hazard Heights" is aimed at the 30 million people who play golf in the United States, and 60 million worldwide.
The premise of "The Foursome Of Hazard Heights" centers on a small fictional American town, Hazard Heights, and a group of four locals who, through a funny sequence of events, unexpectedly get together to play golf at the local course. Included are an egotistical self-proclaimed golf expert (not!), an average guy who hasn't played golf in a couple of years, and two complete novices - in total, three guys and one girl. The curious dynamics of this group dates back fifteen years when they all attended Hazard Heights High School together. Could the novice girl actually beat the egomaniac the first time out? The laughs begin with the debut episode and continue in subsequent episodes as this oddball crew ends up playing golf every Saturday.
Created by Executive Producer Gary Kleinman, the idea was developed as he struggled to improve his own golf game. "I'm a terrible golfer," says Kleinman, "but I am totally addicted to the game, along with many of my friends and family members." He noted his observations about the people who play golf and the funny things they do on the golf course. "I can think of no other sport or hobby that is so much fun despite how frustrating it can be, and how dedicated people are about overcoming those frustrations at any cost." Kleinman observed that golfers constantly rationalize their game, misunderstand the rules, and do anything to make a microscopic improvement in their swing, ranging from, "tiny elbow, shoulder or chin adjustments, to going out and buying a training aid or even new golf clubs every week, it's always something!" Borrowing from all the humorous things he has observed on the golf course, a sitcom was born.
Casting for the show included an extensive search for comedic actors who were also good golfers with the ability to modify their approach based on the fictional skill level of their characters. An ensemble cast was assembled including Michael Rosinsky, Jeff Tendall, Steven Lamprinos, and T'Lane Balue. The pilot episode was written by Dan Southwick and Gary Kleinman and was filmed at the Knollwood Country Club Golf Course in Granada Hills, California. "The Foursome of Hazard Heights" can now be seen on www.FirstRun.tv - Channel 4.
