  • (1888PressRelease) March 22, 2012 - Westlake Village, CA - The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center is celebrating its one-year anniversary at the Water Court in Westlake Village with an Open House. The center has been part of the community for four years and moved to Westlake Village in February of 2011 having outgrown its previous location in Thousand Oaks in three short years.

The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center is one of 1100 worldwide founded by the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a fully accomplished meditation master and internationally renowned Buddhist teacher. In his teachings Geshe Kelsang emphasizes the importance of meditation and how to apply it in daily life, the need to be truly happy and how to cultivate a good heart to help others.

Resident Teacher Rebecca Gauthier has been teaching for 19 years with warmth, humor and a heartfelt, practical style that is an inspiring example of Buddhism in practice.

"When we opened Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center in Westlake Village just one short year ago, our aim was to establish a center where people could learn methods on how to achieve inner peace, contentment and relaxation and enrich their lives and the lives of their families."

"The center is open to everyone and the response we have received so far has been incredible. Our classes and workshops are doing very well. We offer 11 different classes every week and our most popular class is Prayers for World Peace on Sundays, where we have added a class for teens and our kids class is overflowing!"

Donte Henry, a technology consultant has been coming to the center for four years, "I have so much faith and appreciation for everything about the center; Rebecca, the teachers, the other students, the teaching itself and the community that we built. It's such an amazing group of people from all different walks of life and ages and everybody has the same sort of energy and interest and are so kind and compassionate that it just makes it a wonderful place to be"

Michelle Clark is the Administrator/Director and has been part of the Kadampa Buddhist community for 5 years. "The center is here for the community, it benefits each person on an individual basis, but ultimately it is for the community to know that there is this space here in Westlake Village where people can come and relax, let go of the busy activities of daily life and experience inner peace."

The Open House is an opportunity to visit a Buddhist Center and see what it's all about. Resident teacher Rebecca Gauthier will teach a FREE two-hour meditation workshop and there will be a full day of activities, including a magic show for the kids and a vegetarian potluck.
