  • (1888PressRelease) March 03, 2014 - Westlake Village, CA. - The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center (TKBC) is celebrating its third anniversary at the Water Court in Westlake Village with an Open House. The spiritual center has been part of the Conejo Valley community for six years and relocated to Westlake after outgrowing their previous location on Pierce Court in Thousand Oaks.

The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center is one of 1100 centers worldwide founded by the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a prolific author and internationally renowned Buddhist teacher. Geshe Kelsang emphasizes the importance of meditation, how to apply it in modern daily life and how to cultivate a good heart for the benefit of others.

Resident Teacher Rebecca Gauthier studied with Geshe Kelsang and is a charismatic teacher and an inspiring example of Buddhism in practice. Gauthier has been teaching for more than 20 years and before coming to California taught in Boston, MA, Seville, Spain and Athens, GA.

"It is remarkable the amount of growth our meditation center has experienced in the last few years. This demonstrates the importance of meditation and its practical application at work, home and in the community."

Rebecca continues, "When our minds are more peaceful, we are less prone to stress, becoming overwhelmed, frustrated and angry. By learning how to meditate, when we encounter problems or difficulties we can respond in a positive, proactive and solution-oriented manner because we have a clear and calm mind. Children who are three years old to retired men and women are all reaping the enormous benefits of meditation - it is so wonderful!"

TKBC offers a variety of meditation classes that are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators - everyone is welcome. There are at least 10 classes a week and every Sunday from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM, while the adults attend Prayers for World Peace in the Meditation Hall youngsters attend Dharma for Kids (3 to 10) and also a Teens Class.

Donte` Henry, the Center Administrative Director, "It is so wonderful to see kids learning how to meditate. Our teachers love hearing about all the benefits they experience at home and in school. The kids frequently comment that they have better concentration, more focus and don't fight with their siblings or friends as much. Parents comment that the children are more respectful and enjoy meditating outside the classroom."

The Center's popular Lunchtime Meditation classes run from 12:15 to 1:00 PM Monday through Friday and provide a break in the business of the day in a stress-free environment.

Len Foley, CEO of New Horizon Health, Inc says, "Meditation is so beneficial for busy working professionals. As the CEO of a company, I personally find my mind is more relaxed and peaceful after I meditate. This enables me to resolve problems more swiftly, have less stress in my life and better relationships on a personal and business level."

Donte` Henry, "Our compassion is our Buddha nature and TKBC is sponsoring a food drive for Manna, the local food bank for a second year in conjunction with our Open House. We are asking the community to bring canned and dry goods to donate for our friends and neighbors in need."

The Open House is an opportunity to visit a Buddhist Center and see what it's all about. Resident teacher Rebecca Gauthier will teach a FREE two-hour meditation workshop and there will be a full day of activities, including a magic show for the kids and a vegetarian potluck.
