One of the key differences of the Ookla/Speedtest approach versus other approaches was the Ookla/Speedtest takes into consideration multiple TCP connections to collect the measurement data which overcomes certain measurement limitations that most other testing approaches incur.

The Ookla/Speedtest approach used here takes in consideration whole performance, starting with "filling the pipe" of a connection up to full 1Gb/s and measuring the maximum potential throughput of that connection, and combines this level of testing with other factors key to supporting video streaming including packet loss, latency and jitter.
