Triangle Writers Opens Summer 2012 Writing Classes

  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) June 09, 2012 - The writing classes and workshops will take place from June through August and offer topics from business writing to writing-intensive creative workshops.

    Raleigh and Durham summer writing classes are open to writers of all genres, whether a writer is interested in turning their writing skills into an extra income through magazine journalism, or if they are interested in overcoming writer's block, each class focuses on a different skill to help improve each individual writer's career. Three workshops are offered in the Triangle: Freelance Writing 101, Writing the Sex Scene, and Write Now: Sensory Prompts. An Asheville writing class is offered for writers interested in earning an income writing for the web.

    Saturday, June 23, 10:30AM-12:30PM - Freelance Writing 101 in Durham: This workshop is ideal for those with little or no writing credits who want to break into magazine writing, learn how to contact editors, and create compelling query letters. Writers will take home query letters that were successful in achieving publication in national and local markets. Hosted at the Straw Valley Café on Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd.

    Saturday, July 14, 1PM-3:30PM - Writing the Sex Scene in Raleigh: Writers will discuss different ways to present sex in stories through a variety of plots and issues: affairs, AIDS, virginity, marriage and more. Does an author need to convey a hot attraction or a slow-burning heat? This workshop explores dialogue, actions, use of setting and writing from male and female perspectives. Writers will participate in two writing exercises. Hosted at Nature's Pure Essentials on Glenwood Avenue.

    Saturday, July 21, 1PM-3:30PM - Write Now: Sensory Prompts in Raleigh: In this workshop we'll review the causes of stalled creativity and how to prevent running out of figurative ink. This is a writing intensive workshop using prompts that appeal to every sense. Sounds, foods and drinks, smells, images, props and surprises will be used. Hosted at Nature's Pure Essentials on Glenwood Avenue.

    Saturday, August 4, 1PM-3:30PM - SEO Writing/Writing for the Web in Asheville: Without the right content, websites have no value. When creating content for the web, writers need to know how to convey the company's story, so the target audience will find them. This course will explore how internet search engines work, how to create effective web content to boost organic rankings of websites and how to make an income writing content for the web. Hosted at the Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar.
