  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) July 27, 2012 - Travel enthusiast Christine Krzyszton of Traverse City, Michigan, will go all the way to Paris just for a weekend. Or Ecuador. Or Kazakhstan. Or even Beijing, if the airfare deal is right. She calls it "seeing the world in a weekend."

Sounds crazy, right? Not to this intrepid world traveler, who is determined to open the globe to others through her brand new book, How To See The World In A Weekend, now available on Amazon.com.

In her new book, the author tells readers how she first discovered the seemingly crazy concept of traveling the world in short spurts of time, and how she makes these treks for very little money - or even free -- while she enjoys the comforts of airlines' elite status perks.

One of the keys, she says, is to learn to think "when" to travel, not "where."

Krzyszton's amazing adventures started with a $300 fare to Paris. She couldn't talk her friends or family members into joining her - "You mean take only Friday off and go all the way to Paris?" - so she went alone.

"I gave up my seat on the first flight of my journey since it was oversold and received a $400 voucher good for future travel, a fair sacrifice that only set my journey back a few hours," she writes in the book's Introduction. "This amount was more than I paid for the original ticket. Once in Paris, I stayed in a little boutique hotel for $60 a night, which included breakfast. This was before I had any knowledge of what hotel points were. For dinner I ate $3 Brie, tomato, and cucumber baguettes on the street (they're still my favorite). I saw the Eiffel tower for the first time! It was the greatest weekend and I spent very little. I was hooked! I wanted to do it again."

So she started seeking out cheap fares wherever she could find them, regardless of the destination. "I didn't care if they were to Timbuktu," she notes. "All the better...Who do I know who's been to Timbuktu?"

Along with "how" to see the world in a weekend, she also shares reports on 11 of her favorite weekend excursions, in effect taking readers along with her to Almaty, Kazakhstan; Berlin, Germany; Istanbul, Turkey; Shanghai, China; and other points around the globe.

And, yes, one weekend at a time.

Christine Krzyszton is co-owner of Travel For Boomers, a travel-related blog specifically for members of the Baby Boomer generation. A veteran travel writer and self-described "travel hacker," she has amassed over a million frequent flier miles and top tier status with two airline alliances.
