Transportable Drill Safety Standard Included in Harmonized Standard List of EU Machinery Directive
The EU has included EN 62841-3-13:2017, safety requirements for transportable drills, in its list of harmonized standards to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
- (1888PressRelease) July 21, 2018 - On March 9, 2018, the European Commission (EC) included the standard EN 62841-3-13:2017 for transportable drill in its list of harmonized standards published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The inclusion means this standard can be assumed to provide conformity with the essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs) of the Machine Directive 2006/42/EC.
EN 62841-3-13:2017 covers the safety requirements of electric motor-operated hand-held tools, portable tools, and lawn and garden machinery, with Part 3-13 covering the particular requirements for transportable drills. Stakeholders can assume that, while the standard remains listed in the OJEU, adherence to the standard will provide their products with a presumption of conformity to the requirements of the Machine Directive.
Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC is the European Union’s legislative act that defines, on a regulatory basis, the EHSRs for machinery. Member States are obliged to adapt their laws to meet the goals of the Directive, with an implementation date of March 13, 2018, for this document. National standards that conflict with this document must be withdrawn by March 13, 2021.
Stakeholders are advised to now check their products comply with the latest safety requirements under the Machine Directive.
