  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) September 18, 2013 - Today, NV8 Design announces the launch of its Kickstarter (http://www.bit.ly/TrailPixPR) campaign for the patent-pending TrailPix Ultralight Tripod. TrailPix is an incredibly lightweight, modular platform that uses standard trekking, skiing or even tent poles to form a tripod, bipod, mini-boom, or surface mount for any camera.

"TrailPix Ultralight Tripod is the first full-size tripod system you'll actually enjoy using when you're in the great outdoors," said Andy Stough, president, NV8 Design. "TrailPix weighs less than an iPhone, is DSLR capable to 4 lbs., and is incredibly fast to set up. These features make it easy for you to capture more of your memories, and in better ways."

"TrailPix is an exquisitely made pocket-sized solution that cleverly leverages trekking poles that I already carry," said Brian Green, founder of Brian's Backpacking Blog. This is a must-have piece of gear for every backpacker that carries a camera.

"I used the TrailPix on a month-long expedition to climb an unclimbed mountain in the Himalayas," Jonn Jeanneret, adventure photographer. "In this severe environment where every gram matters and can mean the difference between success and failure, the TrailPix earned its place. It's my tripod of choice when I'm traveling light and fast."

"The development of TrailPix has proceeded with the generous involvement of a passionate outdoors community," Stough said. "Over 20 reviewers on three continents have field tested prototype TrailPix units. The feedback has been invaluable and led directly to the current design--a platform that is incredibly small, lightweight, and actually fun to use. And, our U.S. manufacturing team came through on the five-axis machined aluminum, production intent prototypes. They are beautiful!."

TrailPix allows the user to enjoy all the benefits of a standard tripod at a small fraction of the weight, including:

    • Group shots: For anyone who has ever wished someone with a steady hand was available to snap a photo of their family or group, TrailPix allows the user to do it quickly and easily, eliminating the need to ask a stranger who may (or may not!) know how to use or focus their camera.

    • TrailPix allows you to take time-lapses, HDR shots and long exposures from your smartphone.

    • TrailPix helps the user achieve better low-light photos and long-exposure shots.

    • TrailPix allows you to shoot better video footage-meaning no more shaky images. It also allows the videographer to be in the video.

TrailPix is available in two versions, the Universal and the Custom. The Universal is designed to work with any combination of commercially available trekking, ski or tent poles. For those inspired by elegant, minimalist design, the Custom TrailPix is machined to exact specifications to match the diameter and taper for a specific set of pole tips and is available for most major trekking pole brands (Leki, Black Diamond, REI/Komperdell, Outdoor Products, and others).

Both versions share the same impeccable quality and attention to detail made possible by being manufactured on the latest five-axis machining centers in the U.S. They also share the patent-pending innovation of placing all of the pole tips on one side of the unit, allowing unfettered access to the ball head on the opposite side.

Kickstarter funds will be used to support U.S. production of TrailPix. Visit (http://bit.ly/TrailPixPR) to learn more and contribute to the campaign.

    About NV8 Design
NV8 Design, based in Cary, North Carolina, is the developer of TrailPix, the new ultralight tripod that transforms standard trekking, ski or even tent poles into a rock-solid tripod. TrailPix is an incredibly lightweight, modular platform that positions these poles to form an ultralight tripod, bipod, mini-boom or surface mount for any camera.

NV8 president Andy Stough is a licensed Professional Engineer and an amateur photographer. While hiking, he realized that the hiking poles he and his wife were carrying comprised 90 percent of a tripod. He was thus inspired to design TrailPix, which has now replaced the heavy, clunky tripods that seemed to never make it out of his pack.
