Tourism Queensland has launched a new game 'My Big Queensland Thing'

Tourism Queensland has launched a new online social media campaign for the UK, Irish and Nordic markets called 'My Big Queensland Thing' (www.bigqueensland.com). End Quote

(1888PressRelease) October 09, 2010 - Queensland is the place to 'big it up' as they pay homage to bountiful BIG quirky creations adorning shop fronts, roadsides and walkways up and down the State.

Upon starting the game, the user is given the option of several different objects to choose from. After picking the object that they want to nurture and grow over time, the user is encouraged to share it with friends, family and co-workers. The more they share their 'Big Queensland Thing', the larger it grows. A user can also grow their creation by earning 'growth-codes' by answering simple trivia questions about the Queensland found throughout the site and on Queensland's Facebook and Twitter pages.

They've also made it quite easy for users to share their 'thing', by integrating Facebook Connect, Twitter and 'email to friends' functionality into the game-play. Acting upon recent trends in online games, My Big Queensland Thing has been designed to encourage users to nurture and cultivate their creation over time. Primarily targeting the youth and backpacker markets, this social media campaign is aimed at encouraging travellers to learn the unusual stories behind the many 'big things' and the big attractions located nearby using Google Maps technology to navigate around Queensland.

The individual with the largest 'thing' upon the conclusion of the promotion will be given a £1,000 voucher to be used on flights, hotels or other experiences as part of a Queensland holiday. Tourism Queensland has also set aside weekly prizes awarded to those who have accomplished the biggest growth spurt of their Big Queensland Thing over each particular week during the eight week campaign period. Weekly prizes include one of the following; iPads and iPod Nano with Multi-touch. Each week four names will be selected by a random manual draw to receive a runner's up prize of Queensland beach pack including beach towel and beach bag.
