Tour of Utah to Host Pedal Power Festival for Kids

  • (1888PressRelease) August 11, 2010 - SALT LAKE CITY - The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, presented by Zions Bank, is proud to present three days of fun kids' events, known as the teamgive Pedal Power Festival, and Shimano Kids' Race on August 17, 20 and 21.

    The kids events and bicycle festival are being held in conjunction with the week long Tour of Utah, a six-day, six-stage, 325-mile professional bicycle road race taking place along the Rocky Mountain's Wasatch Range. Besides watching the pro races with their parents, kids will be able to learn about bicycle safety, decorate and race bananas, have their faces painted, and "race" on a special courses designed just for them. All events are free.

    5 p.m.: East Parking Lot of Utah State Capitol
    eBay Safety Course: Kids can bring their bikes and discover the rules of the road. They will learn about street signs and bike safety thanks to eBay. Each child will receive a prize courtesy of eBay.
    50/50 BMX: Watch the pros do amazing tricks on a BMX ramp.
    Rockwell Relay for KIDS: Kids will feel like pros as they compete in the Rockwell Relay specially designed for little ones. Each child will receive a Rockwell Racing "slap bracelet" for participating.
    Associated Foods Tour of the Banana: Kids will decorate their own banana racer. Bananas are then raced down the Associated Foods racetrack (picture a Pinewood Derby with bananas!). Each child will receive a treat courtesy of Associated Foods.
    Identity Badges: Courtesy of Siegfried & Jensen, badges look and feel like a driver's license.
    Kids will be able to get their face painted or a temporary tattoo. Come meet the Utah Jazz Bear and Salt Lake Bees mascot, Bumble.

    6:30 p.m.: Miller Motorsports Park
    Tooele County Sheriff's Department Safety Check: Helmet and bike safety checks. Kids will be able to view the DARE vehicle and meet DARE officers. The Sheriff's Department will hand out coloring books.

    The Shimano Kids' Race presented by teamgive takes place on the lower block of the Criterium race course in Park City and precedes the Stage 4 pro race of the Tour of Utah presented by Heiden Davidson Orthopedics. Prizes are limited to the first 200 registrants. Check in will be in the Expo at 7th Avenue and Main Street, and all waivers must be handed in by 2:15 p.m., no exceptions.
    Kids will be able to get their face painted or a temporary tattoo.

    Deemed "America's Toughest Stage Race," the 2010 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah presented by Zions Bank, is a six-day, six-stage, 325-mile professional bicycle road race with nearly 30,000 feet of climbing. The race takes place August 17-22, 2010 along the Rocky Mountain's Wasatch Range through some of Utah's most beautiful and challenging terrain. The Tour will attract 19 professional cycling teams totaling 144 cyclists competing for a cash/prize purse of $45,000.
