Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 Appears On The Gadget Show
Torqeedo electric outboard motors will get it's second feature on The Gadget Show on Monday 23rd August.
- (1888PressRelease) August 22, 2010 - On Monday 23rd August on channel five at 8:00pm you will see the Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 used to make a solar powered boat during a new challenge. In it you will see Ortis demand to use the Torqeedo motor after losing against Suzi during the Wild Scotland challenge whilst using the Ultralight 402.
With a comparable thrust power of 9.9 hp the submersible outboard is a strong competitor for the market. The Cruise 4.0 is the most powerful outboard currently available in the Torqeedo range which includes a GPS receiver/throttle for obtaining accurate information such as speed, distance remaining and charge.
The 48 volt electric outboard has a maximum efficiency of 51% - which is pretty amazing and only weighs 18kg!
The Cruise 4.0 has been developed for boats, which are controlled with remote steering and remote throttle, as well as for sailboats steered with a rudder.
An example of using this motor and the expectations are as follows:
Cruise 4.0 R (with 4 x 12 V / 200 Ah lead batteries), 30 square-metre skerry cruiser 12.4m, 2,600kg
Full throttle with a speed of 6.3 knots will get you 12.6 nautical miles and will last over 12 hours.
On slow speed (2.7 knots) you will travel 89.1 nautical miles over a period of 33 hours!
Want to improve the efficiency even further? Then add a high speed prop. - Increased speed and range will be acheived.
Check out the results of the challenge next week on the G Comm web site.
Another great episode not to be missed.
Happy electric boating from G Comm!
