"I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny and not be at the whim of a corporate lay off again and continually starting over trying to prove myself to new organizations," said DeBernardi. "Franchising made sense to me for all the obvious reasons when compared to trying to start a business from scratch on your own with no corporate - style resources. I believed the odds of success were greater with a proven business model that franchise has to offer."

At 58 years old, DeBernardi thinks he has something to prove to himself, "This is my last great business challenge. I definitely want to be successful at this and proud of myself related to the risk I am taking," explained DeBernardi.

DeBernardi wants to have staff by 2012 and then work to a status that will let him to be active in the enterprise well into his retirement years without having to work full time.
