Top Cannabis Brand Hosts What May be the Rapper Chief Keef’s Final In-Person Performance
Was Chief Keef’s Performance at the BudTrader Experience at SDCC the Rapper’s Last Pre-Hologram Appearance?
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2018 - Just days after announcing a tour where he will beam a live hologram of himself onto the stage, superstar rapper Chief Keef made what those in the know are calling his final truly live performance at this weekend’s BudTrader Experience at San Diego Comic-Con International.
Comic-Con attendees, VIPs and hip-hop heads alike were speculating on whether Chief Keef would appear in person or as a hologram after the cannabis tech brand’s CEO Brad McLaughlin hinted on social media that the megastar would perform Saturday night. Finally, at 1AM, in front of a packed house, Chief Keef took to the BudTrader stage, live and in the flesh. The rapper treated a stunned audience to a surprise performance of many of his biggest hits and new tracks off his upcoming album. At the end of his scintillating performance, attendees were left wondering - did BudTrader get the final in-person Chief Keef performance?
The choice to transition to hologram-only live performances has been years in the making for Chief Keef, a rapper who was recently shot at in New York City and is banned from quite a few cities in the U.S. and abroad. Back in 2015, Chief Keef tried to beam a live hologram of himself onto the stage at a benefit show in Chicago, a city he was avoiding due to outstanding arrest warrants. Cops shut the gig down — twice –, but now the MC is set to take another shot at the technological concert experience, and this time he’s not limiting it to his home city.
Keef, born Keith Cozart, has announced the “Icons of American Music Hologram Tour”, which is set to kick off in London, another city from which he’s banned. Keef hasn’t announced whether he will go back to making in-person appearances after the hologram tour run, so for now, BudTrader Experience attendees may have been the last crowd to ever see Chief Keef perform in the flesh.
The BudTrader Experience at San Diego Comic-Con is in its third year, and the brand’s footprint included not only a booth at Comic-Con, where daily gaming tournaments, signings and interviews were held, but also the exclusive VIP afterparties held Thursday, Friday and Saturday night (July 19-21) at Quad Ale House. In addition to the surprise performance by Chief Keef, BudTrader also hosted a much-hyped set by rapper Slim 400 on Friday night and a performance from singer Ella Knox on Thursday.
BudTrader.com is the largest online cannabis marketplace, with platforms available in the 28 states where cannabis use is legal, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico. With over one-million people registered to their platform, BudTrader’s user base rivals that of industry giants Weedmaps and Leafly.
