Tom Hopper Joins Encelium Technologies as Director of Sales

Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) February 16, 2011 - Tom Hopper has joined Encelium Technologies, a leading international manufacturer and supplier of addressable lighting controls for commercial buildings, as director of sales. In this new role, Hopper will spearhead and manage the company's sales and marketing initiatives throughout the Northeast U.S. region.

Established in 2001, Encelium manufactures the Energy Control SystemTM (ECS). The state-of-the-art technology, which has an average two-to-five year payback on investment period, reduces lighting use and energy costs at a faster rate than other environmental measures. Since its founding, Encelium has installed ECS in more than 35 million square feet of commercial space across North America and Europe.

Prior to joining Encelium, Hopper worked with Energy Savings Management Systems (ESMS) as the vice president of sales and marketing where he was responsible for 65 percent of the customer base. During his tenure, his team saved the quick service industry more than $25 million in costs. In the 1990s, he also was involved in the lighting retrofit business during the Ontario Hydro rebate program. Hopper earned a mechanical technology degree in solar engineering from Humber College in Toronto, specializing in energy-efficient building design.

Proven to secure lighting energy savings of 50 to 75 percent in a wide range of commercial applications, ECS uses the collaborative power of addressable networking technology in conjunction with advanced control hardware and software. The system utilizes six distinct energy management strategies that include daylight harvesting; smart-time scheduling; task tuning; personal software-based controls; occupancy control; and variable load shedding. In as many as 4 of 6 LEED categories, the system contributes up to 18 points toward LEED certification.

Encelium's wide range of commercial projects includes office buildings, schools, healthcare and public facilities, parking garages and stadiums. At the R. Fraser Elliot Building at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Canada, the ECS installation achieved an annual energy cost savings of nearly $47,000 and a significant reduction of CO2 emissions. In addition, the building reduced its lighting energy consumption by 74 percent and cut its lighting energy demand by 37 percent.
