QuoteSeriously, it's time for today's teens to grow up and advocate for themselves now before there's literally nothing left in America for them.Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) August 09, 2011 - Given the current climate in Washington, D.C. and the growing debt that will continue to disenfranchise today's youth and tomorrow's taxpayers, Tom Barrella is determined to bring them to the attention of legislators by organizing and leading a March on Washington of thousands of teens in the summer of 2012.

As a leading finance and investing educator at Syosset High School and founder of www.Investeens.com, Tom Barrella is highly rated by his students, and over the years has launched several of his students into their own financial careers. He created the Investeens.com site to educate teenagers on the catastrophic events that crippled the world economy and caused the economic downturn of the past three years. "By combining our philosophy of education with perspective and advocacy," says Barrella, "we can help prepare students for their role as future adults who can prevent a recurrence of the economic blunders that led to this point and time. Getting their attention now in their formative years gets them thinking now about possible solutions."

Fortunately, some of today's youth do have a perspective on the problem. In addition to the hundreds of students who pass through Tom Barrella's classes and after-school investment club, Investeens.com provides a national and international forum for all teens to participate and voice their opinions. The current group of seven Teen Editors is comprised of six Syosset High School students between sophomore and senior year, as well as one junior from The International School Bangalore (TISB), India. Additionally, the Forum and Message Board host comments from a variety of cultures and countries - most recently Russia. All student contributors work to supply content to the site and editorialize on the news of the day.

Thousands of students like them who feel disenfranchised by the actions of lawmakers today will be more than eager to participate in the Investeens' March on Washington, D.C. and stand in support of their views to get their voices heard by Congress and the White House. These are students who not only have a stake in the future and know they will have to pay for the mistakes made in behalf of or in spite of them today, but also teens that have yet begun to consider their future but are awakening to the fact that they want to learn more about it.

"Many of the actions currently being taken by the federal government, state governments, and big business are questionable at best," says Barrella. "Someone has to put their actions into perspective. I believe that framing it in a form of interaction that is non-threatening allows students to make their own conclusions and sets a platform for spirited discussion." We invite students, teachers, parents, and even financial literacy groups across the U.S. to go to http://www.investeens.com to sign up for the 2012 Investeens' March on Washington.

Permits and scheduling plans are in the works. Tom Barrella has launched a full-scale PR plan and social media campaign to get the word out one year in advance and start the buzz within student teen communities. The www.investeens.com website will be updated with further details on the March over the coming weeks.

Tom Barrella is a leading teen investing educator who teaches his Investment Decision Making course to about 100 students each year and advises another 50 students as members of the Investment Club at Syosset High School on New York's Long Island. Mr. Barrella also teaches a college-level course in corporate finance at Syosset and is founder of Investeens.com.

Tom holds a bachelors degree in Management Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master's degree in secondary education from Hofstra University. He has recently completed a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership.
