Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 16, 2012 - Three Hardin Construction Company projects on North Carolina higher education campuses earned 2011 Excellence in Construction Merit Awards from the Carolinas Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
At Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, ABC cited Bennett's iconic, 22,542-square-foot Global Learning Center as well as its 42,663-square-foot Honors Residence Hall-both in the $5 million to $10 million category. The buildings were part of a $22 million capital improvements campaign for Bennett College. Hardin served as design builder.
Also cited by ABC-in the $25 million to $50 million category-was the 110,500-square-foot School of Education classroom and office building at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). The $47 million project, a joint venture with Rodgers Builders and Walter B. Davis, both of Charlotte, NC, was also awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), becoming the first "green" building on the UNCG campus.
