Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces a High-Resolution Separation of Polysialic Acid
Thermo Fisher Scientific introduces a high-performance anion-exchange with pulsed amperometric detection method for the analysis of polysialic acids.
- San Jose, CA (1888PressRelease) October 25, 2012 - Thermo Fisher Scientific is pleased to announce a high-performance anion-exchange with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAE-PAD) method for the analysis of a homologous series of polysialic acids. Application Note 1013: Polysialic Acid Analysis: Separating Polymers with High Degrees of Polymerization demonstrates that this new approach achieves better resolution than existing methods. Using a specially developed column, this method resolves homologues of colominic acid, a polysialic acid, with a degree of polymerization (DP) ≤100 in 70 minutes (with a sodium acetate gradient) and ≤140 in 90 minutes (with a sodium nitrate gradient).
This new method surpasses the maximum DP of ~60 for acetate and ~80 for nitrate that can be achieved with other anion-exchange columns. The Thermo Scientific Dionex CarboPac PA200 column resolves high DP polymers better than other columns typically used for this application. The small particle size of the substrate (5.5 μm) and microbead (43 nm) enable the Dionex CarboPac™ PA200 column to perform these higher-resolution separations.
