There With Care Fund Eric Cares Presents the First Annual Dia de los Muertos Fundraising Event
Proceeds go to assist families with funeral expenses following the loss of a child.
- Boulder, CO (1888PressRelease) October 02, 2013 - Today, local non-profit There With Care announced the first annual Dia de los Muertos event to take place on October 24 at Linger in Denver. Proceeds will benefit the Eric Cares program, dedicated to assisting families with funeral expenses and resources following the loss of a child to terminal illness.
The Eric Cares program was established to help celebrate and commemorate the beautiful life of a child. So, why was "Day of the Dead" chosen to celebrate the lives of children lost? Because Eric Cares believes life is worth celebrating.
Dia de los Muertos is a Latin holiday created by the ancient Aztecs. Unlike the American Halloween, Dia de los Muertos is a holiday to celebrate the lives of those we have lost with light, love, and remembrance. The Latin culture doesn't fear death, but rather celebrates it. They believe that this is a holiday where they can once again be close to the ones they have lost through fun, food and celebration.
"In the two years since its inception, Eric Cares has helped many families in the Denver and Boulder areas celebrate the lives of the children they have lost," said Melody Jamali, the Eric Cares executive director. "There are many organizations that help families when their child is sick, but there are few places to turn if their child loses the battle. The goal of this event is to raise awareness of this fund and to help support families during one of the hardest times of their lives."
The event is $75 per person and includes dinner, drinks and some spooky fun. Space is limited, so only 40 tickets will be sold. Tickets are available for purchase online at ThereWithCare.org/Linger.
All donations to the Eric Cares Dia de los Muertos event are tax-deductible and all proceeds go directly to assist families with funeral expenses and to memorialize and celebrate the life of their child. Corporate event sponsors include Horan & McConaty, Wrap & Send Services and Une Belle Vie Memorial Urns.
About There With Care
There With Care is a community of people who dedicate their time serving children and their families when facing critical illness. The organization serves families who are referred by social workers, building a network of services and people who ease the burden of the day-to-day challenges with compassion and care. In 2005, Paula DuPre' Pesmen left her film career as producer of the Harry Potter films to start There With Care. While on set, Paula met critically ill children and learned how isolated and overwhelmed their parents felt. In response, Paula created There With Care to support each family by delivering daily services during their child's medical illness. Since inception, There With Care has supported more than 1,000 families in Colorado.
