The Young & Powerful Group Raises Over $250,000 National Grassroots Campaign Towards President Obama Campaign
The Young & Powerful Group brought together emerging leaders from more than fifteen cities and through more than 25 fundraisers for one cause and that's to get them intimately involved in the political process and to raise for President Obama's election campaign.
- (1888PressRelease) December 21, 2012 - CHICAGO, IL - Young Americans played a monumental role in President Obama's 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns, and Young & Powerful for Obama (YPO) - a national grassroots campaign of the Young & Powerful Political Action Committee - leveraged that newfound political energy to raise more than $250,000 towards the president's campaign. The Young & Powerful Group embarked on a multi-city circuit that led to more than 25 small dollar fundraising receptions across the country in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Charlotte. Massive volunteer efforts were also executed to include Get Out to Vote (GOTV) initiatives and volunteer bus trips to key battleground states. Collectively, the national grassroots campaign serves as a classic textbook example of young Americans being empowered to exercise their political power and become more civically engaged.
"We are incredibly proud of the monumental energy that young people exerted as part of the political process," says Jarvis Houston, Co-founder of The Young & Powerful Group. "Since the inception of the Young & Powerful Group, budding leaders from across the country have dedicated tremendous effort towards electing a president who advocates for all Americans. For the President's Inauguration in January, we unite all of our cities, supporters, and leaders in celebration of this unforgettable moment in our nation's history with six unprecedented Inauguration events."
Each city's fundraiser reception brought together hundreds of young innovators who sought to play an active role in the President's re-election, many of whom became politically engaged for the first time in their lives. Rising Stars were also honored during each fundraiser in recognition of emerging leaders who embody a deep commitment to social activism, civic-mindedness, pragmatism, and tenacity. Honorees included young founders of non-profits, emerging political leaders, social activists, and even professional athletes who do good work through their own foundations.
Today, the culmination of hopes, dreams, energy, and determination commence on January 21, 2013 in Washington, D.C. on the steps of the Capitol where President Obama will be sworn in for a second term. The Young & Powerful Group are gearing up for a series of six unprecedented Inauguration events from January 18-21, 2013 appropriately titled BELIEVE. The celebratory weekend will commence with a kick off reception and include an emerging leaders brunch, a semi-formal and unity event in collaboration with other grassroots organization, a political forum and comedy show, and culminate with the marquee event and Black Tie Gala at O Mansion on January, 21, 2013. Fittingly, the gala is themed DREAM to mark the President's Inaugural swearing in on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, also the first time any American president has ever been sworn in on MLK Day.
