- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) February 02, 2024 - On Saturday January 27th, 67 volunteers from The Way to Happiness Association Tampa Bay took to the Pinellas Trail to rid the trail of unsightly trash and thereby safeguard the environment. Nearly 200 pounds of trash, including discarded watches, swimming goggles and socks.
The cleanups are done in partnership with Keep Pinellas Beautiful. The Association has been part of Keep Pinellas Beautiful’s Adopt-a-Mile program since 2015.
“In 2023, the Association participated in 14 cleanups,” said George Yehorov, the Executive Director of the Association. “Our volunteers put in 829 hours and collected more than 1,200 pounds of trash. With the success of the first cleanup of 2024, we are looking forward to beating last year’s record!”
“Keep America Beautiful’s 2020 Litter Study estimates there are 50 billion pieces of litter along US highways and waterways,” said Yehorov. “We need to care for our planet so that future generations can enjoy a healthy environment – it is really up to all of us to do that.”
“In The Way to Happiness, author L. Ron Hubbard wrote: ‘The litter which messes up the terrain and water supply, the dead brush which invites fire, these are things one need not contribute to and which, in otherwise idle moments, one can do something about,’” said Yehorov. “Cleanups are something we can do to care for our environment.”
The 1-mile adopted stretch of the Pinellas Trail will be cleaned again next month on Saturday, February 24th.
