The Walters Group Named 2010 Builder of the Year by Shore Builders Association of Central New Jersey

The annual Builder of the Year award is presented to one active SBACNJ member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement during the year. The Walters Group was chosen for several reasons, explains Gina Woolley, executive officer of SBACNJ. "They are leaders in the industry promoting 'green' building. And they are one of our most active builder members, giving back to the community by being involved in different charitable organizations. We are pleased that they are being honored for the recognition of which they so deserve."
During the ceremony, Walters was also presented with a Builders Employing Associate Members (BEAM) award. SBACNJ presented the annual award to Walters for exemplifying teamwork principles in employing member companies in their projects.
"This is a great honor for the entire Walters team, which goes above and beyond its professional duties and responsibilities by also giving back to the community through their charitable efforts," said Ed Walters, Jr., president and founder.
Walters regards his philanthropic endeavors as investments in his community and fosters a giving mentality throughout the organization. He encourages employees to get involved in supporting local and national charities. Over the years, the firm's long list of creative community-action drives have benefited the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, American Cancer Society, the Musser Blood Center in Philadelphia, Habitat for Humanity, Hurricane Katrina victims, Red Cross, Project Playground in Barnegat, Barnegat Police Department, Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company and the Barnegat Girls Softball League. Walters also helped to form the Southern Regional Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that garners community support for fund-raising initiative to enrich the school district's programs and fund scholarships.
Walters has also made a significant contribution to the furtherance of the commercial real estate industry's sustainable practices. His firm's green strategies are exemplified in its award-winning redevelopment, Stafford Park, a mixed-use LEED-certified project, which has received national recognition for its outstanding sustainable building initiatives.
