Creditplus announce the top 10 used cars sold on car finance in 2009.

The continued success seems to be down to the desirability of the 3 series model combined with good residual values.
The list has once again confirmed that the BMW 3 series is one of the most desirable used cars on the market. The Ford Focus came in 2nd place but was over 1% behind the BMW. It's clear that consumers are still keen to obtain finance packages when buying their new vehicles. Many have put the popularity of the BMW down to the comfort, performance, styling and the status associated with the vehicle.
Unsurprisingly the smaller and more economic cars are also high up the list. There is certainly a trend developing that used car buyers want to save money with fuel costs and car taxes, with big engine vehicles becoming too expensive to run.
Vauxhall has a strong standing in the table with 4 vehicles listed. Many of their owners have commented that they are pleased with their vehicles as they provide comfort, practicality and economy, all at an affordable price. Vauxhall also claimed the most popular people carrier with the Vauxhall Zafira (the only people carrier to make the top 10 list).

This list represents an important standing in the current climate with a clear indication that consumers tend to be spending less on used cars, apart from the BMW 3 series and the Volkswagen Golf. The list was compiled by Creditplus after they sold 100's of different makes and models of used cars on finance in 2009. The list also suggests that many customers were more cautious about their credit circumstances and their ability to borrow with the current economy struggling.
The wide ranging list featured over 350 different used car models that were purchased using finance provided by Creditplus. Many people have a specific car in mind before seeking car finance which helps add to the wide variety of vehicles sourced.
The list also confirms Vauxhall's new range of vehicles have become highly sought after, especially by young drivers who are looking for a reasonably prices car, which is stylish, well equipped and cheap to run. This led to 4 Vauxhall models appearing in the top ten results list. Often young drivers don't have the money available to buy a car and that is why they turn to car finance to be able to afford the car they desire.
Investigating the results closely shows that there is a quite a big split between consumers purchasing more expensive cars with perceived quality such as BMW and Volkswagen, and those that offer affordability such as Ford, Vauxhall and Renault.
The combined totals of the models in the top ten show that the manufactures BMW and Volkswagen provided 10.26% of the results, whilst Ford, Vauxhall and Renault gave a combined 24.37%. This shows that despite BMW being top of the list for used vehicles bought using car finance in 2009, the trend is moving towards to the cheaper, more economic models as a whole.
