  • Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) January 20, 2011 - The Southern California Group, The Boys and Girls Club and several other local businesses held their First Annual Charity Dodge ball Tournament on December 19th, in Venice, Calif. The tournament consisted of 13 teams who participated in hopes of becoming dodge ball champions. Over 20 local businesses who attended this event made contributions to help raise funds for The Boys & Girls Club and Operation Smile. A surfboard painted by youth members of The Boys & Girls Club was auctioned off as well.

The Boys & Girls Club is designed to be a place where the youth of the community can feel safe and have the opportunity to develop successful habits in regards to leadership and social roles. The club maintains a low fee of $20 a year so that all youth of the community have the ability to participate. The mission of The Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Operation Smile (http://www.operationsmile.org/) was founded in 1982 by Dr. Bill Magee who went to the Philippines with his wife and a group of volunteers to repair children's cleft lips and cleft palates. There they discovered hundreds of children with similar deformities and decided to begin the Operation Smile program. Now their mission is to provide safe, effective, and free procedures for children with cleft lip, cleft palate, or other facial deformities.

"Not only was it a fun and competitive event, but we were able to raise funds and awareness for important community causes as well," said Eric Lee, a participant and member of The SoCal Group team. (http://socalgroup.blogspot.com/)

In the end, The SoCal Group earned the trophy as the champions of the First Annual Charity Dodge ball Tournament. But more importantly, participating businesses were able to raise nearly $2000 in support of The Boys & Girls Club and Operation Smile.
