  • (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2016 - As reported on August 29, the second unit of NPP Kudankulam was connected to the grid, and on July 10 the second unit reached the minimum controlled power level.

    Kudankulam NPP is being constructed in India within the framework of bilateral agreement dated November 20, 1988 and the amendment thereto dated June 21, 1998. In 2002, under the management of JSC Atomstroyexport the construction of the first two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with total capacity of 2,000 MW has started.

    The first reactor of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant was commissioned. In April, 2014 Russia and India signed framework agreement of the second stage construction of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant that includes power unit № 3 and 4.

    The documents for construction of the third stage of NPP Kudankulam are currently coordinated.

    The "road-map" for cooperation in atomic energy between India and Russia envisages the construction of 12 power units in India, including the territory of NPP Kudankulam - units from 4 to 8. In addition, an agreement been reached on the allocation by India, another site for nuclear power plants with Russian design.
