The Running Nutritionist Set to Run Like a Diva in Long Island
The Women's National Running Series hosting its annual Run Like A Diva half marathon in Long Island October 1 through October 3.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2010 - The Women's National Running Series is pleased to announce its diva extravaganza weekend from October 1 through October 3, 2010, in Eisenhower Park, Long Island. More than 4,000 women are expected to participate in this boa and tiara clad running spectacular. Lisa Dorfman, MS, RD, CSSD, LMHC, also known as The Running Nutritionist™, is among the notable participants. Runners and their friends and families can shop, enjoy a movie in the park, run a half marathon, and party like a diva.
"As a part-time New Yorker, I look forward to running in this unique half marathon," stated Lisa Dorfman, 34-time marathon finisher (PR 2:52 including a 6th place OA at Long Island Marathon) triathlete and author of six nutrition books including her latest, Performance Nutrition for Football (2010). "I am excited to indulge in champagne, roses and a fabulous race venue with all my fellow divas."
The weekend begins with a Health & Fitness boutique open all day on Friday and Saturday and will feature more than 30 exhibitors featuring free samples and showcase the latest trends in women's fashion and design, and advances in running shoes and apparel. Lisa Dorfman will host a booth offering "Diva Diet Sports Nutrition Consults," product samples, and a lounge to mingle with participants. The two-day boutique is free and open to the public.
With her extensive experience in sports nutrition, Lisa will be available to discuss key nutrients for runners, and how they play a role in total health. "It's essential to consume sufficient vitamins and minerals when increasing physical activity, especially if you're training for a marathon," she explains.
"Regular, intense physical activity can deplete your body of essential vitamins and minerals, such as magnesium, and leave you feeling tired or week, especially if your diet is less than balanced." Research by the USDA shows that seven out of 10 people have a magnesium-deficient diet. To be sure you're getting enough magnesium, check out the Magnesium Calculator tool on Slowmag.com; it's a free and easy way to check your daily intake. And if you're not getting enough magnesium in your diet, log onto learn more about Slow-Mag® Tablets which combine magnesium and calcium, giving you two important nutrients your body needs.
Saturday night features a movie in the park at 7PM. The weekend ends with a half marathon at 8AM. Finishers will receive a blinged out medal: it is shiny; it spins; and even has room to put a picture on it. Awards will also be given to the top three participants in each age category. A post race dance party follows the 3.5 hour race.
