The Federation has appointed leading ICT services and solutions provider Northgate Managed Services to embed and support ICT throughout both academies. The contract will see Northgate design, supply, install and manage a robust, flexible ICT solution.
- (1888PressRelease) December 09, 2010 - Carlisle's two new academies are set to launch a groundbreaking approach to learning with a £3.19 million, anytime, anywhere ICT system that allows students to tap into the Federation's Virtual Learning Environment whenever they choose, thereby capitalising on each individual student's capacity for retention and their optimum learning environment.
The system is a collaborative one, shared across the two academy sites, enabling staff, students, parents and members of the community to tap into it at anytime. The Federation has appointed leading ICT services and solutions provider Northgate Managed Services to embed and support ICT throughout both academies. The contract will see Northgate design, supply, install and manage a robust, flexible ICT solution.
The Federation has chosen the very latest high speed virtualised wireless solution from Meru Networks. The system is designed to support very high numbers of staff and students using phones, laptops, netbooks and in fact any wireless enabled device. The Academies' wireless networks allow staff and students to quickly and securely access any files, software and the internet in the comfort of their new buildings.
Commenting on the ICT solution, Katie Robinson, Headteacher of Richard Rose Morton Academy, said:
"Both of our academies are about to move into state of the art buildings and it is appropriate that we have a 21st century ICT solution for our students to match their fantastic new surroundings. This will open up a brand new approach to learning, enabling students to take in information when and where it is most enjoyable for them. Their parents will also have access so that they can check on their child's progress, tap into community information or develop their own skills and qualifications by taking part in adult education classes that will be available on the Academy's Virtual Learning Environment".
Chris Wiseman, Sales Director, Education at Northgate Managed Services, commented:
"We are extremely proud of our partnership with the Richard Rose Federation. Northgate's extensive experience of operating shared services across multiple sites allows us to meet this vision efficiently. It is truly admirable that this provision has been extended to the wider community and we look forward to support teaching and learning using ICT".
Northgate already supplies ICT services and solutions to over 1,200 school, college and academy networks across the UK working with a plethora of exceptional centres of learning, including Trent Valley Academy in Gainsborough, Bristol Cathedral Choir School in Bristol, Havelock Academy in Grimsby, Litherland High School in Sefton and Abraham Guest High School in Wigan.
