(1888PressRelease) January 16, 2014 - New Delhi - Rekhta.org, one of its kind website on Urdu literature, celebrated its 1st anniversary in The India Habitat Centre, New Delhi amidst eminent guests from the field of Urdu literature and Media. The occasion was graced by numerous who's who from the world of Urdu literature and also saw a swarm of many Urdu poetry lovers. Besides, prominent figures from literary field, eminent guest from the world of politics and business were also present to mark the occasion.

The evening was attended by eminent personality like Mr. U K Sinha (Chairman, SEBI), Muzaffar Ali (Indian filmmaker and promoter of Sufi music), Shamsur Rahman Faruqi (eminent litterateur, Critic and Author), Shamim Hanfi (prominent Critic and Professor Emeritus, Jamia Millia), Kamal Morarka (Industrialist, Urdu aficionado President - World Trade Centre, Bombay), Kuldip Nayar (Veteran Indian journalist and columnist), Syed Shahid Mahdi (Retd. I.A.S., Former Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia University), Prof Akhtarul Wasey (Vice Chairman, Delhi Urdu Academy) and others were there to witness the events. The Chief Guest of the evening was Mr Salman Khurshid, Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Mr. Sanjiv Saraf, the founder of Rekhta Foundation, launched and presented the new and enriched website which formed the main attraction of the event. The website not only would serve as a single resource for Urdu poetry lovers but this time comes with various other new features. The website has more than 8000 Ghazals, 700 Nazams and 1000 e-books from across 700 poets to start with. Moreover, the new website is more user friendly and interactive and is loaded with more content. The entire website is available in three languages viz. Urdu, English and Hindi, thus catering to majorly all segments of users. The site has recently been made responsive which would enable users across all platforms including desktop and laptop computers, tablets as well as mobile phones.

What differentiates this website is its enriching content that encompasses all genres of Urdu literature. The site boasts of not only having a splendid collection of Urdu poetry, Ghazals, Nazams, Marsiyas, Rekhti and Short-Stories, but also carries many rarely available books and magazines in form of e-books.

In order to facilitate nascent Urdu poetry lovers, the new website also has a popular and beginners section guiding the new users in their endeavour of exploring Urdu literature world. The Editor's choice section will allow users to browse through select and quality Urdu collection which is a must-see for all visitors.

A large number of compositions have been recorded in the voice of poets and professionals and have been provided along with the text. The site has been updated with new collection of famous Urdu poet Mir Taqi Mir and all short stories of Saadat Hassan Manto. Videos of poetry recitation by famous poets like Kishwar Naheed (renowned poet from Pakistan), Sarwat Zehra (from UAE) and interviews of famous critique like Nasir Abbas Nayyar and writers like Mirza Hamid Beg have been added. Taking the entire resource to next level, a full-fledged series of lectures on Arooz (Science of Prosody) has been offered on as a part of the new features in the site. Rekhta has further started a program to provide young & upcoming poets and established literary figures from across the world a platform to showcase their compositions.

The evening concluded with musical evening by a Sufi Singer, Deveshi Sahgal, followed by dinner and cocktail.

Rekhta Foundation has established a website www.rekhta.org with the objective of promoting and disseminating Urdu literature, especially Urdu Poetry to an audience beyond those conversant with the Urdu script. The content is available in Devanagari and Roman scripts in addition to the Urdu script.

The website was launched on January 11, 2013 by the then Communications Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal and has a global readership from over 140 countries across the globe. Rekhta is the initiative of Sanjiv Saraf, an engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur, a successful entrepreneur and an ardent lover of Urdu Poetry. Sanjiv Saraf has received awards for promotion of Urdu language including one at the hands of the Vice President of India Shri Hamid Ansari.
