The Photograph Collection Of Kansas City Mayor Dick Berkley Generating Goodwill For Decades

Never without a camera, for decades former Kansas City Mayor Richard Berkley has captured portraits of politicians, leaders, sport stars and celebrities. He has taken thousands of pictures of all kinds of people over the years networking and generating goodwill. A portion of his collection is now on display at Buttonwood Art Space through the end of May. End Quote

Kansas City, MO-KS (1888PressRelease) April 20, 2013 - Never without a camera, for decades former Mayor Richard Berkley has captured portraits of politicians, leaders, sport stars and celebrities. Reagan, Carter, Thatcher, Hope, Kissinger, McEnroe, Channing, Dole, Eagleton, Nicklaus, Cisneros, Koch, Gephardt, Ford, Ali, Bombeck, and others are in the exhibit. Animals, skies and landscapes are also represented. "I had my picture taken for 12 years as mayor, so I like to take pictures of other people," said Berkley. A frequent traveler, Berkley has traveled to more than 70 countries, clicking all the way. He has taken thousands of pictures of all kinds of people over the years generating goodwill.

An extensive collection of his photos, with additional photos by others of celebrities Dick and wife Sandy were fortunate enough to meet, will be on display at Buttonwood Art Space, 3013 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64108. The exhibition will hang at Buttonwood Art Space April 4th through May 27th.

An Artist Reception for Dick Berkley will be held on First Friday, May 3rd, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Buttonwood Art Space. This is a free event with complimentary appetizers, wine and beverages. Please RSVP to 816-285-9040. The gallery will also be open on Saturday, May 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Framed photographic prints are available for sale with 20% of the proceeds being donated to Harvesters, Wayside Waifs or the Wounded Warriors Project, at the buyer's discretion. The exhibition will hang at Buttonwood Art Space April 4th through May 27th. Gallery Hours: Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm, or by appointment. Richard L. Berkley received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (1953) and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1957. Dick is married to Sandy with two children, Elizabeth and Jon.

Dick Berkley served as mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, U.S., from 1979 to 1991 and was a city councilman for ten years prior. Although Kansas City mayors do not officially have political affiliations, Mayor Berkley was the first Republican mayor of the city since the 1920s. He served longer than any other mayor in Kansas City history.

Numerous capital improvement projects occurred during his term, including a major expansion of Bartle Hall Convention Center and revitalization of the Quality Hill neighborhood. Berkley was mayor at the time of the Hyatt walkway collapse in 1981. The Richard L. Buttonwood Art Space was founded by Jon and Wendy McGraw as longtime supporters of the arts in Kansas City and owners of Buttonwood Financial Group, which underwrites the Art Space. The McGraw's purchased the Buttonwood building in 2005, and then they opened the gallery as a place for local and regional artists to share their works.
