- (1888PressRelease) January 07, 2023 - The first Online Sports Leadership Program (OSLP) National Summit has recently concluded, and it was a blast! Last October 20-22, 2022, the summit brought together world-renowned sports leaders and Olympic athletes from the Philippines and around the world to share their thoughts, dreams, and aspirations for Philippine sports. Filipino school and government administrators, leaders, and coaches had the chance to hear their stories, learn from them, and enjoy a weekend of networking in one of the Philippines’ most beautiful and greenest cities, Puerto Princesa City.
The OSLP was born out of a desire to create a culture of excellence, respect, and friendship in our sports community. The national summit was part of its commitment to support leadership development through sports.
During the 3-day event, the participants joined in discussions and workshops that focused on Storytelling in Sports, Networking through Sports, and building a stronger community of leaders in the Philippines. Each workshop had its own focus – and each one looked at how Systems Thinking can be used to improve leadership across all levels of sports.
There were activities in-between discussions too. The welcome dinner featured performances from the Palawan State University Singers and entertained by the Sining Palawan Dance Troupe. There was even a Zumba session led by Carina Sales of Bicol University and sports warm-ups!
Philippine Sports is as diverse as it is vibrant. As such, the country has an array of sports leaders and athletes who are passionate about their sports and providing athletes with the tools they need to enrich their knowledge and skills. The participants were fortunate to have met and engaged with speakers who shared their expertise as sports professionals – facilitators Coach Noli Ayo and Akiko Thomson-Guevara OLY, and Keynote Speaker Coach Marc Dagenais.
Also present in the event were the spotlight speakers who inspired the participants through their stories and experiences – Atty. Margarita Nograles of PBA Partylist; Atty. Alberto Agra, President of Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation; Mr. Jude Turcuato, Executive Director of the MVP Sports Foundation; Mayor Benjamin Bautista, CEO of Pilipinas Super League; Mr. Francis Diaz, Deputy Secretary General of the Philippine Paralympic Committee; Ms. Kaye Samson,National Director of Special Olympics Pilipinas; Mr. Monsour Del Rosario OLY from the Philippine Olympians Association; and Atty. Oscar Moreno, President and CEO of OSM Consulting.
Professor Josephine Joy Reyes, Executive Director of the National Academy of Sports (NAS) also gave everyone a glimpse of the forthcoming NAS facilities while Philippine Sports Commision Commissioner Olivia Bong Coo graced the event as well.
A virtual summit was held at the same time as the in-person event.
The participants enjoyed a motivating and positive experience that they will continue to work together even beyond the OSLP National Summit. They are excited for next year!
