- Middlesex-Somerset-Hunterdon, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2012 - The NY/NJ Black McDonald's Operators Association (BMOA) will host its 18th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser on Thursday, July 12th, benefiting the BMOA Scholarship Fund and Ronald McDonald House Charities' (RMHC) annual African American Future Achievers Scholarship. The NY/NJ BMOA is an organization of McDonald's Owners/Operators of African-American and Caribbean decent in New York and New Jersey, dedicated to providing opportunities for youth in the communities in which they operate. This year's BMOA fundraiser honors the achievements of National BMOA Chair and CEO, Roland Parish, and Restaurant Support Officer of the East Division of McDonald's USA, Rick Colon. The NY/NJ BMOA is very proud to be donating the funds raised at this year's Scholarship Fundraiser to the BMOA Scholarship Fund and RMHC African American Future Achievers Scholarship.
The NY/NJ BMOA is the tri-state chapter of the National Black McDonald's Operators Association, an organization founded in 1968 to provide a support system for African-American McDonald's Owners/Operators across the country. The NY/NJ BMOA is comprised of 18 Black operator entities, owning 67 stores throughout New York and New Jersey. Restaurants within the NY/NJ BMOA gross an impressive $180 million annually in sales. The NY/NJ BMOA aims to be an example of entrepreneurship, and provide career opportunities for members of their community. Additionally, the organization works to bring awareness to the many programs that RMHC has available in the community including health, education, the arts, civil and social services.
Since it's inception, the NY/NJ BMOA has been dedicated to providing scholarship funds for deserving high school seniors. "Education is simply the soul of society, and the NY and NJ BMOA is dedicated to passing that on from one generation to another," says Marty Gillis, a NJ BMOA member. Since 2005, the NY/NJ BMOA's annual Scholarship Fundraiser has raised approximately $500,000 in academic funding for students in need throughout New York and New Jersey. "To invest in education is to invest in the future of a nation," says Harry Staley, President of the NY/NJ BMOA, "by providing scholarship funds to students in our community, the NY/NJ BMOA is making the greatest investment any organization can make."
This year's NY/NJ BMOA has proudly partnered with RMHC African American Future Achievers Scholarship, in conjunction with the BMOA Scholarship Fund. Both scholarships target African American graduating high school students with strong indications of academic and social success. The scholarship programs aim to invest back into the local communities, helping African American Future Achievers and graduating high school students meet the spiraling costs of a college education. The scholarship also strives to fulfill the gap for students with limited access on the importance of college and career choices. "The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you," says Mitchell McGuire, a McDonald's Owner/Operator in NJ, "our hope is to show young people that education is the most powerful possession one can own."
This year's NY/NJ BMOA Annual Scholarship Fundraiser will be held at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston, NJ, and includes raffle prizes, a silent auction, performances and a host of special appearances, all of which will be announced in the weeks leading up to July 12th. The NY/NJ BMOA will be honoring Rick Colon, Restaurant Support Office East Division of McDonald's USA, LLC and Roland Parrish, McDonald's Owner/Operator Chair & CEO, National Black McDonald's Operator's Association. Rick Colon and Roland Parrish will be celebrated for their dedication to humanitarianism and for their outstanding business achievements within the McDonald's franchise.
