The New York Junior League Announces Harlem School of The Arts as the 2024-2025 Community Improvement Project Partner
Signature NYJL project to invest more than $70,000 and provide trained volunteers in restorations of educational spaces.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) November 27, 2024 - The New York Junior League’s (NYJL) Community Improvement Project (CIP) has selected Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) as its 2024–2025 community partner. The NYJL’s hands-on renovations of HSA’s instructional spaces will enable HSA to enhance and expand its instruction of studio arts and create a multipurpose space where students can gather and display their work.
As one of the NYJL's largest community programs, CIP has partnered with organizations across the City since 2012 to provide community space renovations. CIP will provide a trained team of NYJL volunteers to lead and carry out the renovations, contributing hundreds of hours of work, and an investment of more than $70,000 in supplies and in-kind services to maximize impact.
“The New York Junior League is proud and excited to work with a community partner focused on youth development and arts education,” said NYJL President Jeri Powell. “Through these large-scale renovations of school spaces, the Community Improvement Project will support HSA in expanding critical programming.”
Annually, HSA provides arts instruction to over 1,200 students ages 2-18, with a primary focus on those from underserved communities, in several disciplines including dance, music, musical theater, theater, and studio arts. CIP’s renovation of the “studio” arts classroom will enable educators to modernize their instruction with enhanced facilities and technology while providing a welcoming, organized space for both teachers and students. Improving and strengthening the physical infrastructure of the school will allow the organization to maximize capacity utilization and further its widespread impact on the greater New York community.
