Background on The Fund and How To Give
The Monica Abbott Scholarship Fund, established in 2012 at the Community Foundation for Monterey County, supports this annual scholarship. The scholarship may be applied to tuition, room, board, books and other necessary expenses of attendance at an accredited college or university. The Scholarship is awarded to two graduating Monterey County high school female athletes. Currently, the recipients receive $1,000 each. The Fund hopes to increase this to $5,000 by 2018 and to a full-ride as funding permits. As the fund grows, recipients from Tennessee, Illinois and across the United States will be eligible. "I would be honored if you would partner with me to grow this fund and help empower young female athletes through education. Let's inspire the next generations of great female athletes across this country. They deserve a college education," says Monica. The scholarship is paid directly to the college or university the recipients are enrolled in.
