In 2012, the food bank needs to collect 145,000 lbs. of food and $60,000. The goal was set as a result of the increased demand for food in Mississauga.

The Thanksgiving drive is the largest annual food and fundraising effort for the organization. Last year, the drive collected an impressive 141,288 lbs. of food and $49,292 of cash donations. As a result of Mississauga's generosity at Thanksgiving, those fighting hunger received over 147,000 meals.

93% of the organization's funding comes from community sources, with the remainder coming from the regional government. Fundraising efforts like the Thanksgiving Food & Fundraising Drive make sure that the 65,000 monthly clients of The Mississauga Food Bank continue to find the help they need.

Volunteers will be handing out paper collection bags and accepting donations at Loblaws and Metro grocery stores on Thanksgiving weekend. On Saturday October 06, Vinyl 95.3 will be broadcasting live from the Loblaws grocery store located in Heartland Town Center. Local residents are encouraged to donate Thanksgiving weekend or drop off non-perishable food items. Food donations can be made at any Mississauga fire hall or grocery store from September 26 - October 24. Cash or food donations can also be made at any time to The Mississauga Food Bank.

According to Chris Hatch, Executive Director of The Mississauga Food Bank, "We are setting out to make this year's drive an even greater success than the last.
