Main Street Collierville has once again selected the Memphis Sound Band to open the Sunset On The Square Concert Series.
Memphis, TN-AR-MS (1888PressRelease) May 07, 2008 - The Memphis Sound band, featuring lead vocalists Jackie Johnson and Woody Degan, has once again been selected to open the Sunset On The Square Concert Series presented by Main Street Collierville. The band will perform the Opening Night concert on Thursday, June 5, 2008 under the Gazebo in the Old Town Square. This year the concert series features eight consecutive Thursday events, with the exception of Fourh of July week, highlighting the finest Memphis and Mid-South music and entertainment.
The Memphis Sound band is one of the Mid-South's most recognized and favorite Memphis entertainment groups, performing not only the greatest hits of Memphis Music from the last 60 years or so, but also incorporating other songs of the era, as well as a few contemporary favorites. The band is the Official Performing Artist of the AutoZone Plaza Concerts at Memphis Redbirds Baseball games, as well as many other local and regional events. These Memphis Entertainers are also the most requested theme band in Memphis Music today, performing their show as corporate event entertainment, casino entertainment, concert openings, closings, and featured entertainment for events ranging from wedding receptions to presidential fundraisers.
The Memphis Sound band is comprised of the finest vocalists and musicians in Memphis Music today, including lead female vocalist Jackie Johnson, who has won the Memphis Premiere Player Award for Best Female Vocalist. Most recently, Jackie sang three songs for the major motion picture soundtrack of the Denzel Washington / Forrest Whitaker movie The Great Debaters in late 2007. Jackie's vocals are complimented by Woody Degan, male lead vocal and keyboardist for the band. Neal Bowen, one of the most respected bass players in the region, is the bands Music Director and theory expert. Lafayette Adair provides the unmistakeable Memphis groove and feel on drums. With guitar, horns, and FIVE vocalists, the Memphis Sound Band not only has a BIG sound, but a tight musical presentation that you won't hear, or see, often.
"It's an honor to be selected for the opening of the series again," says Degan. "I wasn't sure about how we'd do on the opening last year, because it usually takes two or three weeks for the crowds to develop, but they told us we had the largest opening crowd ever and one of the largest of the season. That's what we're here for: to get the crowd out early in the season, to provide a foundation to build on. It's a great event, a great series, and a great environment. We're thankful to once again be a part of it."
It all kicks off in the Old Town Square in Collierville, Tennessee on Thursday June 5, 2008. The Sunset On The Square Concert Series featuring the Memphis Sound Band.
