- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) September 18, 2015 - Opening Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 8:00 PM is The Mat, The Mob & The Music,
a unique stage production of storytelling with "yarn spinner" Chicago Mad Dog (Tom Hankins), and featuring "nasty ass" blues music and sweet background vocals from Chicago Mad Dog and the Bad Dogs. This fully staged one evening extravaganza will be held at CAP STUDIO (Complete Actors Place), 13752 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, California, 91432. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The stories are directly from The Mat, The Mob & The Music, a book written by Tom Hankins, soon to be available from Crowbar Press. Some of the stories are about Dr. Jerry Graham, the infamous legend in the world of professional wrestling, including John Tolos, Bruiser Brody, Manny Fernandez, Harley Race, Pat Patterson, and Mil Mascaras, just to name a few. These stories will seem outlandish and unbelievable; all are nothing but the truth. Tom's personal experience with music legends Jim Morrison, Chuck Berry and Frank Zappa may trigger a flashback to the '60's. Intertwined within are stories of Tom's days with the mob.
Tom Hankins became a big fan of both professional wrestling and rock and roll back in 1958. Tom became deeply immersed in wrestling and started a fan club for NWA (National Wrestling Association) World Heavyweight Champion, Pat O'Connor. At the age of 13, Tom decided to start his own band. Before long, the band became the top act in the Midwest, opening for such acts as the Dave Clark Five, The Animals, The Everly Brothers, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, Ike Turner and dozens more of the days top stars. In Tennessee in 1973, his goal of becoming a professional wrestler came true, Tom traveled to many of the wrestling territories for the NWA and after success in California, Mexico, St Louis and Hawaii he retired.
