The Markham Waxers: Tradition, Heritage, Community, Development of Youth in Hockey, Sports and in Life! Markham is a true World Class Community.
(1888PressRelease) April 25, 2012 - Markham Waxers: The Markham Minor Hockey and Unionville Minor Hockey Association's and the Waxers Junior Hockey Club stand for Tradition, Heritage, Community and Youth Development.
The Town of Markham, (Unionville) Ontario, north of Toronto, isn't much different than other small communities across Canada. It has its own minor hockey associations, which grooms generation after generation of Canadian hockey youth. from house leagues to AAA, to Junior, over 110 years in the OHA.
Markham is remarkably successful in developing young hockey players, a fact the rest of the hockey world has known since the early 1960's, but now, has seen watching two of its most recent graduates come of age in the NHL, from Steven Stamkos, who played his youth hockey in Markham, was the first pick of the 2008 Entry Draft. In his short career, he's already won a Rocket Richard Trophy and currently leads the NHL with 20 goals and 35 points. Not long after the Lightning picked Stamkos, the New York Rangers drafted another Markham graduate, defenseman Michael Del Zotto at No. 20. Now add Skinner and Hodgson, to NHL. Steven Weiss also played in Markham.
We are adding to the original Web Site created by Don Bremner, Norman Lamarre, in 1994, Bremner and the Savolainen Family, and Russ and Larry Herrington up to 2005.
The Web Site: will answer some of your questions?
But we need more information to be added.
Questions: about Waxers: What is a Waxer ? Who played for the Waxers ?
The History ? The Alumni Teams and Rosters ? The Questions ? MMHA and UMHA, Old Coaches, old players, friends, family and community.
We want to create one of the best Web Sites for our community. Our Hockey History one hopefully every one can be proud of.
The Waxers Organization has created an organization for the development of young hockey players within the minor ranks from house league to Tier II Junior Level.
Markham is a town of commitment: A Town committed from the Mayor Scarpitti and in the past Don Cousens, down to all coaches, trainers, assistant coaches, parents, fans and from the volunteers up.
Markham is truly "Hockey Town Canada".
