The Marca Espana has its Debut in Brussels
Spanish personalities lend their support at presentation of the Marca España in the European Parliament.
- (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2013 - Madrid, Spain - The Marca España unveiled itself yesterday in Brussels with enormous success. This event, hosted at the European Parliament building in Brussels, was attended by over 500 people. The gala was presented by journalist Carlos Herrera, and was also attended by the Vice President of the European Commission and Competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia.
During his speech, Almunia rejected the stereotypical definitions of Spain that speak of an "industrious north and a lazy south". He also called for a return to "the values of the transition - consensus, transaction and collective agreement - which are identical to those underpinning the construction of Europe". Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, meanwhile, called for an end to the cliché of "the Spain of fiesta and siesta", saying that Spain is the "second most respected country in Europe after Germany".
Those taking part in the event, who enjoyed a live flamenco show, a fashion parade and a gourmet food tasting session, included designers such as Vitorio & Luchino, chefs (Mario Sandoval), Antonio Brufau (Repsol) and Pedro Ballvé (Campofrío).
This initiative may be repeated before German, British, American and Japanese audiences.
