The largest book fair in Romania, GAUDEAMUS, prepares for its 17th edition
Radio Romania is planning a new edition of the leading cultural, publishing and educational event in Romania, GAUDEAMUS International Book and Education Fair, Bucharest, November 18th - 22nd. In 2010, the Guest of Honor will be Belgium Wallonia Brussels.
- (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2010 - The 17th edition of the GAUDEAMUS International Book and Education Fair - the largest event of its kind in Romania organized by the national cultural and media institution Radio Romania - will take place in Bucharest from Thursday, November 18th to Monday, November 22nd, 2010, at the Central Pavilion of Romexpo.
With a publicly appreciated history started in 1994 and based on consistent efforts in developing the book & education market relations between Romania, Western and Eastern European countries and other continents, GAUDEAMUS International Book and Education Fair gathered in Bucharest in 2009 over 100.000 visitors, 385 exhibitors in 14.000 sq.m. of exhibiting space, around 100 journalists and 500 related debates and book launches.
The sections of the Fair include: the main Book and Multimedia Exhibition; the National Salon of Books for Children; the Education Salon gathering foreign and local universities; the National Salon for Youth's Creativity and Inventions etc.
Starting 2010, every edition of GAUDEAMUS International Book and Education Fair in Bucharest has a Guest of Honor. This year, the Guest of Honor is Belgium - Wallonia Brussels, an option built upon the cultural affinities and opportunities of professional cooperation and exchanges between the two countries, on the book market. The moment also emphasizes the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council between July and December 2010. The Honorary President of Bucharest's GAUDEAMUS International Book and Education Fair 2010 is Mr. Jacques Dubois, Belgian philologist with a worldwide reputation, professor of modern literature and sociology of literature at the University of Liège, author of several specialized, globally acknowledged studies, especially on mystery novels and on Georges Simenon's books.
GAUDEAMUS IBEF Bucharest has also entered the continental program "Journées du Livre Européen" initiated in Switzerland and joined in by cities such as: Paris, Genève, Bruxelles, Luxembourg, Strasbourg etc.
Having grown to be a 'fiesta' of books and cultural events, GAUDEAMUS International Book and Education Fair enjoys a wide media impact. The Fair promotion is constantly reinforced by its initiator, Radio Romania, the public radio corporation, through its international, national and local stations (Radio Romania Actualitati - national leader of audience, Radio Romania International - broadcasting in 12 languages live and online, Radio Romania Cultural etc). Other media partnerships are developed every year with the national television (TVR Cultural) and the leading newspapers and magazines, generating over 200 reports per Fair edition.
