National Quilting Day began in June 1991, as a result of a resolution passed by members of the National Quilting Association, Inc., to begin sponsoring the annual day of observance on the third Saturday in March. Gradually, through the years, it has unofficially expanded to the entire month of March.
Throughout history, quilt makers have had a long standing tradition of producing beautiful and functional heirlooms, and for generations, they have made contributions to their families and the communities in which they live.
