  • (1888PressRelease) March 30, 2012 - The IOU Project, which makes unique, handmade, traceable apparel, has been awarded the Innovation of the Year 2011 at the 16th Luxury Briefing Awards, also known as the Oscars of the industry, hosted on March 14, 2012.

Nominated with Pinterest, Seditionart.com, FarFetch.com and Wool and the Gang, The IOU Project was named the winner for its use of technology and its vision to drive greater authenticity, transparency, uniqueness and both social and environmental responsibility in fashion. The award category, sponsored by Nucleus, recognizes organizations that have demonstrated true craftsmanship and innovation while addressing an old problem in a new way. PPR Puma/Behar/Fuse project - Clever Little Bag was given the award last year.

The IOU Project produces and sells unique, handmade apparel made from textiles hand-woven in India, assembled by master craftsmen in Europe and distributed throughout the world. The fabrics are embedded with QR codes that enable consumers to track each item they purchase all the way back to the weavers. The stories of how that item was created, the people involved and the customers who purchased them, are the essence of the e-commerce social network that The IOU Project has established for those that share their brand values.

"We are honored to receive the Innovation of the Year Award this year. We thank Luxury Briefing for recognizing our efforts to become a catalyst for change, not only in the fashion industry but in manufacturing generally," said Kavita Parmar, Founder of The IOU Project. "Working toward 100 percent transparency, The IOU Project celebrates the artisan and recognizes every partner in the production and distribution process. We invite others to join us and rethink how goods are produced and sold to benefit everyone and protect the environment."

The Luxury Briefing Awards for Excellence recognize the best and brightest achievements and individuals within luxury over the past year. The awards have been extended to reflect the changing face of luxury and to celebrate the diversity of talent, ideas and excellence across the industry.
