The Hilary Guest House Honoured For Its Commitment To Quality, The Environment, And Fair Trade
Llandudno guest house, The Hilary becomes the first local business to win the prestigious fair trade and green tourism awards.
- (1888PressRelease) June 29, 2011 - Llandudno United Kingdom -- A guest house in Llandudno has become the first of its kind to win the Fair Trade award and the Green Tourism award. Just six years after the current owners took over the town centre holiday accommodation, it has been transformed into a bastion of fair trade and a champion of local business. The awards were established to recognise those local businesses that purvey the qualities of fair trade in their local and greater community.
The Hilary Guest House, Llandudno, is the first guest house in the area to have collected this prestigious award. It comes as a deserved accolade for owners Deborah and Colin Thompson whose commitment to the local community and environment is a part of their everyday lives.
As well as picking up the Fair Trade award, The Hilary Guest House has also been honoured with the first Green Tourism award given to local businesses in the area. Their Silver Award is of greater significance to the town centre guest house as it is arguably more challenging to "go green" for those businesses that are situated in busy centres rather than in more rural countryside locations.
Rather than sitting back and resting on their success, though, the Thompsons have vowed not only to continue with their fair trade, environmentally friendly ways but to strive for further improvement.
As part of the awards judging process, The Hilary received a "sustainable tourism" review which highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the Llandudno based guest house. Speaking after receiving the award, owner Deborah Thompson said that the family had been given ideas on how to further improve and stated that they would "be putting these into action".
The awards encompass a host of different areas regarding how local businesses are run. They consider the impact on the local environment through factors like landscaping as well as the promotion of local culture. They concentrate on recycling and effective waste management programs and even whether or not the business promotes the use of local public transport rather than more carbon intensive transport methods. The silver award, received by The Hilary Guest House, shows a serious and long term commitment to the cause.
The Hilary Guest House, Llandudno, is a four star guest house that lives up to the town motto of "Hardd Hafan Hedd" (beautiful and peaceful haven). The family run guest house offers eight individually styled guest rooms that are beautifully decorated and kept spotlessly clean. There's a free car park and every room includes free WiFi Internet connection too. Guests can experience the surrounding "garden area" famed for its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere as well as having easy access to the beaches, pier, promenade, Great Orme, shops and restaurants and other local attractions
