The Herbal Academy Of New England Opens Its Doors To Student Herbalists Summer 2012
Founder Marlene Adelmann Takes Her School to Enrollment with a Comprehensive Certification Program, Engaging Cooking Classes, and Educational Workshops.
- Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) August 08, 2012 - After years of organization and building connections with local teachers and herbalists, Marlene Adelmann is launching the Herbal Academy of New England with big goals and a unique mix of classes.
The Herbal Academy of New England has been in the works since summer 2011 but officially opened to the public this summer! With its first big appearance at Herbstalk in Somerville, MA, the school is ready to push forward in a big way. The Herbal Academy began offering classes for students June 2012 and is now accepting applications for a thorough Study Herbal Medicine Certification Program come fall, along with educational workshops and engaging herbal-cooking classes. Classes are already filling up for this summer at the Herbal Cottage, one of the school locations in Woburn, and they expect students to start piling in as workshops progress into the fall.

The Study Herbal Medicine Certification Course (Sept 22, 2012-June 2, 2013) is the academy's largest effort, providing students with nearly nine months of in-depth classes. The journey of becoming an herbalist truly begins with these courses. Throughout the certification program, students will study anatomy and physiology as well as learn about the actions of herbs, such as tonics, stimulants, alteratives, nervines and many others. With the guidance of the school's resources and knowledgable instructors, student herbalists will take their experience to a whole new level with active plant identification; responsible wild crafting; and medicine making, including tincturing, extracts, elixirs, teas and so much more!
Founder, Marlene Adelmann, is a graduate of the distinguished Boston School of Herbal Studies, where she developed her education and ideas of building a school that is unique to passionate herbalists and those on the fringes as well. The Herbal Academy of New England strives to be available for those wanting to advance into sophisticated plant medicine, along with those just getting their toes wet. With the unique mix of classes, newcomers shouldn't feel embarrassed or inexperienced as the teachers lead students through ways to use herbs in everyday life.
Here is a sample list of classes and workshops available at the Herbal Academy of New England:
• Really Raw and Ridiculously Delicious (August 20, 2012): Fresh, raw, organic ingredients from appetizers to deserts.
• Making Medicine - 4 Part Course (August 27-29, Sept. 30): Facilitator will teach tincture/salve/tea making with dried or fresh herbs.
• Study Herbal Medicine Certification Program (Sept. 22-June 2): Train to become an herbalist through this program. Classes held on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Cooking Class (Date TBD): This class will concentrate on good, clean, organic food and nutrition. Hands-on student participation or demonstrated by instructor depending on group size and food being prepared.
• Healing Art Class (Date TBD): To help promote well being and healing through self expression.
• Tea and Art (Date TBD): Continuation and guidance for students in the Healing Art Class
• Let's Take Care Of . . . (Date TBD): This class will address specific ailments and the herbs that are beneficial in treating them.
• Walk and Talk (Dates TBD): Medicine walks (plant identification).
• Alternative (Dates TBD): Talks or programs presented by alternative health practitioners.
The Herbal Academy of New England is open for guests to visit (Herbal Cottage: 120 Arlington Road, Woburn MA) overlooking the scenic Horn Pond. A second school location with retail shop, Perch on Bedford Common, is slated to open later this year in Bedford, MA. Both schools are located in ideal settings for growing herb gardens and taking educational plant walks.
