Akron's premier store for beer brewing equipment and supplies introduces a limited edition of yeasts for fans of great English, Belgian, and Bohemian beer.
(1888PressRelease) July 26, 2011 - Akron, OH - Thanks to The Grape and Granary, beer enthusiasts have the opportunity to appreciate the finer elements of homemade beer. Often considered the second cousin to wine, all that is about to change with the store's beer brewing equipment and supplies. Located in Akron, Ohio, the store offers an incredible range of yeast strains and culturing supplies with the introduction of English Special Bitter yeast, Leuven Pale Ale yeast, and Staro Prague Lager yeast strains available from July through September. These new additions, available for a limited period, have their distinct characteristics best described by John, beer brewing expert and member of the family-operated store. John says, "All the three yeasts are from the private collection strain. The English Special Bitter Yeast is perfect for malt predominate ales and beer styles like Blonde Ale, Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Southern English Brown, and more. The yeast produces a light fruit ethanol and is delicately hopped to produce a mild malt with a neutral soft finish. The fermentation temperature is 64 - 72 degrees F and it has an alcohol tolerance of 9%."
About the Staro Prague Lager Yeast John says, "Use Prague Lager yeast for beer styles like Bohemian Pilsner, Traditional Block, Oktoberfest, Eisbock, and more. The yeast creates medium to full body lagers. You might want some additional hop bittering since the malt flavor is slightly sweeter. The yeast is originally sourced from a large brewery in Prague. It does not finish as dry as other Czech Pils yeast strains. Alcohol tolerance is at 11% and the fermentation temperature range is from 50 - 58 degrees F."
The third in the new selection is the PC Leuven Pale Ale Yeast, a top fermenting Belgian style strain ideal for beer styles like Belgian Pale Ale, Belgian Double, Belgian Strong Golden and Dark Ales, and Flanders Brown Ale. The yeast has spicy aromatic characteristics with a fermentation temperature of 61 - 75 degrees F. Dave, an avid all-grain brewer and member of the family-operated business is among the first to experiment these new seasonal releases. Dave says, "If you are looking for a new beer tasting experience then you will definitely appreciate these flavors. I suggest you brew up a batch and try different hop samples. All these special strains are limited editions that may or may not be released again, so grab hold of them while you can."
