The Dead Sea Is A Finalist In The New 7 Wonders Of Nature Online Global Campaign
The Dead Sea - is well known all over the world for it's medical and cosmetic uses, but nowadays the lowest place on earth - is competing against 27 other natural sites around the world in the finals of the New7Wonders of Nature online global campaign.
- (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2010 - The Dead Sea - the lowest place on earth - is competing as an international site on behalf of Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority against 27 other natural sites around the world in the finals of the New7Wonders of Nature online global campaign. The Dead Sea is constantly among the top half of finalists on the weekly ranking which appears on the campaign website, www.new7wonders.com. Over a billion people are expected to vote in the campaign, either online or via SMS messaging, for the seven winning sites.
The Tourism Ministry, which is the official Supporting Committee for the Dead Sea, is promoting the Dead Sea voting via its 14 offices overseas, its website in 11 languages and in a multi-faceted international marketing campaign that includes social media. The ministry is calling upon all Israelis and fans of the Dead Sea around the world to act as ambassadors for the Dead Sea, to vote for the site and help promote voting in their communities.
The Dead Sea, together with, among others, the Amazon River, the Galapagos Islands, the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef and the Maldives has advanced to the finals by beating 440 other natural sites in the earlier stages of the campaign. Based on the results of the previous New7Wonders campaign, tourism to the Dead Sea and the entire Middle East is expected to increase by hundreds of percentage points in the event that the Dead Sea is among the seven winning sites, to be announced at the finals on 11.11.11.
Voting for the Dead Sea can take place on the internet, with only one vote for seven finalists from each email address, either via the Tourism Ministry's website (www.goisrael.com) or the campaign website (www.new7wonders.com ) or via SMS voting in Israel only by sending the words Dead Sea in Hebrew or Arabic to 2244 (unlimited voting for one candidate only, cost per message NIS1).
Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov: "The Dead Sea is one of Israel's natural and tourism treasures and a win would encourage tourism to Israel in general and the Dead Sea region in particular, while creating new jobs and leveraging tourism activities in the area."
